Okay, so I may not be the most interesting read and I may not say anything that you don't already know but this diary is mainly for myself. I enjoy sharing it with others, particularly my close friends so they know what's happening in my world, but its still mainly for me. I love to type out my thoughts. Its a great break from my otherwise hectic day. And I love reading over old entries and seeing how much life has changed. So enjoy the read but try not to be too critical.
That "Famous" Yellow Cake
February 6, 2007 - 11:57 a.m.
Well, this has already been a productive week and its only Tuesday. :) I got our taxes done and all the bills are paid. What fun, huh? At least they're done. So my projects for the rest of the week include getting my stupid house in some order (yes, I'm still working on that) and experimenting with a cake recipe in attempts to recreate a Blandford family favorite. Years ago, my mother-in-law received a cake recipe from a next-door neighbor and it quickly became a family favorite. Unfortunately, shortly after they moved to Missouri, the recipe was lost and mom has not been able to recreate the recipe. So, last night I called mom and she gave me the basic recipe based on what she had written down from memory shortly after misplacing the original recipe. My job is to experiment with it, using my darling hubby as the official tester, to get it as close to the original thing as is possible. It is a basic Sour Milk Chocolate cake, though mom leaves out the cocoa to make a yellow cake, instead. I have found dozens of recipes online all with varying amounts of ingredients so I'm just going to start altering it slightly until I, hopefully get the right combination. My first attempt tasted very similar (Paul's opinion) but did not set well at all. So, today I'm going to try adding an egg and see if that makes a difference. We'll see. What fun, huh? Oh my! I am running late! I need to be at Nancy's in an hour and my hair is a disaster. Gotta walk the kids home from school because of early release. Morgan is extremely excited to be able to play with them. So, off I go to get us all ready to head out the door. Hope everyone is having a great week!
